Liverpool hackney cabs and private hire have today taken part in a mass demonstration against Delta.... the local radio stations have been inundated with phone calls and I should imagine there will be something in the Liverpool Echo.....

I suppose the obvious question is, "why"?

It would appear the reporter doesn't understand licensing legislation along with the clown who said, "hackney cabs have to return to their own area".

Please don't remind me of the obvious regarding public hire.

Regards

JD

It would seem that the demonstration today was not organised by any of the Liverpool trade associations........ it was organised by the everyday full-time hackney driver......

This meeting is supposed to be a about a demonstration regarding fuel prices, and it is my understanding all areas are welcome... no doubt as feelings are high..... Delta will become a topic of conversation..... it is also my understanding that Liverpool council will be returning to the Department for Transport regarding the Delta situation.

So the kerfuffle is really about cross border hiring law, not just about the inns and outs of Delta. :?

Also the article says that insurance premiums are cheaper in Sefton than in Liverpool, is that right? :?

Strange I see, Mr Kelly the chair of the licensing committee, was over at radio merseyside, making a statement, all most before the protest started.
But i will take your word for it ,so no trade organisation, had any thing to do with this . Councillor Malcolm Kelly by his radio interveiw , knows more about licensing law than JD , or did someone else tell him what to say, i wonder.

I am going to have to start charging you..... under the anti-terrorism laws you have to inform the police when you are staging a demonstration at least 24 hours before if not more....... obviously the police would of contacted Liverpool council...... and I would think that the Liverpool legal department would have given Mr Kelly a pre-written statement.

Sussex I forgot you're not one of the people in the taxi trade that consider themselves businessman..... insurance rates are different all-round the country... BUT.. and it is a big but... the insurance companies as far as Liverpool are concerned are not interested in where you actually live but set the rate because you have a Liverpool plate and work in Liverpool obviously.

A lot of Liverpool drivers have said to me that they cannot compete against a government subsidised private hire company.

If you suddenly had a private hire fleet taking away your normal work by undercutting you by a considerable amount, you might understand.

Enlighten me to what you call, "your normal work"?

The only thing I understand is that private hire vehicles along with their drivers cannot stand and ply for hire in any place either public or private. I also understand it is perfectly legal for any private hire or hackney carriage driver to wait in any licensed area other than their own.

We know you and the other mindless bunch want every taxi driver in the UK to return to their own license area when they have completed a job but that is never going to happen so I think you guys on Merseyside need to go back to the drawing board and find a different solution to the one you contemplate which is holed below the water line before it even leaves dry-dock.

Regards

JD

If the insurance companies think Liverpool is a sh** hole, then that's not the fault of Delta.

Typical Liverpool, everything that happens to them is everyone else's fault.

It must be great comfort, to all those Delta drivers who reside in Liverpool (rate payers). That liverpools legal department is advising the council on how best to change the law, to screw Delta . I think Mr Kelly said that they were going to London a third time . To lobby for a change in the Law, no dout highlighting the latest protest. Perhaps you can enlighten us Mr T .
