Dress code for cabbies adopted.

Taxi drivers will need to smarten up to "encourage their professional image."

Braintree district councillors approved on Monday to adopt a dress code for hackney carriage and private hire drivers, which sets out a minimum standard of dress.

Under the guidance "clothing should not be dirty, ripped, snagged or holed or contain words or graphics that are offensive or suggestive."

Drivers will also be expected to cover their torsos, tops of their arms and the top half of their legs.

A penalty points scheme to regulate the behaviour of drivers, owners and operators was also approved, giving them the chance to resolve a problem without the council needing to revoke or suspend a licence.

Isn't it a tad sad when we need dumb a*** councillors to tell us how to act professionally.

Shouldn't we all be acting professionally in the first place?

Yes, but then again last summer I saw one of my fellow drivers working in a sleeveless teeshirt, boxer shorts and flip-flops

How about a dress code for councillors ?

The only people with the right to order people what to wear are employers, councils dont employ drivers, do they ?

The choice if attire of some of London's cab drivers makes me wince.

Addison Lee may not go willingly to NW10, but at least they are suited and booted when they do get mugged.

These lads aren't best pleased either.

Aye, they're not bad Sussex, but they're hardly going to line up for a photo opportunity in jeans and trainers when they're trying to fight a dress code.

Most drivers in my area are fairly well turned out (many wear collar and tie, for example), but there's one or two who come out in track suit and trainers.

We have a dress code, but it doesn't preclude jeans, tracksuits and trainers (IIRC) but I doubt if it's enforceable anyway.

Just out of interest do any of these Scottish Councils include the Kilt in their dress codes, does anyone know?

I'm not sure it isn't discrimination of many sorts really, women can choose what they wear whilst males are restricted to bifurcated garments,why is this? Is it oppression of some sort?
