Any representative worth their salt would have dealt with any issue that was not above board at the time of the meeting..... they would simply have said I am not agreeing to any of the proposals until I have consulted with my members and no communication with the Ministry for Transport can take place referring to my union or Association....
???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Mr Thompson who was speaking at the time did ask the two trade unions present if they needed to consult their membership. Both Unite and ourselves informed Mr Thompson that we would.

I did ask Mr Thomson several questions relating to the proposed consultation items, his response was not to answer my questions!

I did ask the group if anyone had objections to the minutes and issues being posted on the GMB PDB site. Mr Thompson on behalf of the group asked me to wait three days before posting, to which I agreed.

I look forward to the next meeting when our representatives can give our members opinions on these issue's.

Regards
BB

We warned the DFT of the duplicity of the National Taxi Ass and that they should be ignored. as we consider them nothing but a racist owners cabal, we informed them of their support for a Racist demo in london last year, and their failure to attend or send an appology re the meeting in the House of Commons recently on Driver safety.

We made it absolutely clear that the current situation is intolerable, we pointed out that we believe the Police are racially motivated and their persistent REFUSAL to respond to calls for assistance must be dealt with.

Now what cretin would have said something as stupid as that? :-k

Would it possibly have been a certain clown who heads the GMB Minicab branch? Image

Well it seems that even the sleeping snake T&G have woken up to this MoM issue. Image

In June/July's Cab Trade News their comments sections says;

The controversial assembly 'Meeting of Minds Consultation Group' has produced a document that represents a consensus of it's proposals on taxi regulation. Whilst we accept that on the face of it these recommendations are meant in the best interests of both trades, we cannot help but wonder if we are being led into a trap of 'Operator' licensing for the taxi trade. Licensed taxi radio bases do not need an operator's license. This was legally determined in court through the fine efforts and personal finance of a Brentwood taxi driver.

We must ask everyone to remember or accept that radios were used by the licensed taxi trade years before the licensed private-hire trade emerged from an illegal mini-cab trade. All licensed taxi drivers must resist the imposition of an operator's license on the taxi trade.

Not quite sure that's true. [-(

It may give the impression, and the T&G reps may think that's the case, but it ain't. Oh no no no. [-X

Typical anti PH rhetoric from the T&G. Image

Maybe someone from that union could remind me when exactly mini-cabbing was made illegal? :?

Apparently the next meeting is on the 12 July 2008, as Pat is away, it will be interesting to see if the GMB PDB get invited.

Whats so confusing to trade unions when someone says take these things away and see what your members think of them?

Maybe it's because an impression was given that something was a fait accompli.

Nothing if those words are spoken.

It raises a few eyebrows when the Chairman of the meeting actualy says 'Do you need to consult your membership'

I think if you can show you was born in the North West then you are in, if not, then taxi reforms shouldn't concern you. [-(

So will a certain person be bringing proposals at about 10.29am and wanting everyone to sign up to national ops licenses? [-(
