if they do a job outside of the city boundary than they would charge tariff two or three.

and down this way if you're to go to a police station with a customer that is refusing to pay the police will only make him pay what is on the meter...... so it's no good telling them that he was told it would be clock and a half,,,, if it's not on the meter then you get nowt

Liverpool have three tariffs on the meters..... pound to a penny.... he was charging tariff two when he should have been charging tariff one and they normally make the driver returned the full fare charged

If that is the case. why aren't Liverpool taximeters Clock/Calendar controlled to avoid manual intervention by the driver.

Are you sure you are a hackney driver

The last time I looked in the mirror, which was this morning I still was.

What gave you the impression that I was not a Hackney driver?

Dream on!!!

The only thing we asked for was that if they de-regulated that new plates should go to new WAV vehicles only and the council agreed.

Birmingham Cabbies asked the council to de-regulate; you must be having a GIRAFFE!!!

your committee members asked for more licences to be issued and they were told that more licences could not be issued unless the council derestricted, but your committee wanted more licences so they agreed to de restrict with the condition of a new f x 4

That just did not happen.

But the only way to settle this is to have a look at the licensing committee minutes at that time & if they are not on the Internet, I will go into the Central Library & look them up.

It might take a week or two.

I was very close to all things that happened with the trade then, but never went to licensing committee meetings as I do now.

I have a suspision that only the chairman at the time went to those meeting, & if I recall there was angst amongst the committee about just one person doing cab trade representation.

Who knows what might have been said that others in the trade did not know about.

PS Just take with a Pinch of Salt what I have written elsewhere; it is in jest!!

OK. but how can they just switch to whatever tariff they like?

We can't in Brum on our clock/calendar meters; they're virtually tamperproof. That is how we got them passed at the licensing committee. No manual intervention in tariffs by the driver.

And down here very few drivers will even turn a wheel for a job that goes beyond the city boundary; they're all MUF jobs.

No MUF, no ride.
