Cabbie Dad Makes Special Delivery - His Baby!

28th July 2008

A Liverpool cabbie today told how he found himself playing midwife when his baby daughter turned up early.

Little Lexie could not wait to meet parents Sharon [edited by admin] and Lee Shwenn.

It took Lee five minutes to deliver his healthy 8lb 3oz daughter on Friday night.

He was given expert help from an ambulance operator called Alison who talked him through the birth on speaker phone.

The drama began at 8pm on Friday while Sharon was in the bath

By the time she got out the baby was already on its way.

Lee, who was with the couple’s two-year-old daughter Robyn, got Sharon on to their bed and called an ambulance control room operator.

Five minutes later Lexie was born, just in time for an ambulance crew to check her and her mother.

Lee, 32, from Clubmoor, said: “I still can’t believe what happened. Alison was very calm and talked me through everything.

“And Sharon was helping me because she’d been through everything before.

“Lexie had the cord wrapped around her arm and head when she was born, so I unwrapped it then put her on Sharon’s tummy.

“I was in the birthing pool with Sharon when Robyn was born so we’ll have stories to tell both the girls when they are older.

“Sharon did all the hard work, but I’d do it all again if I had to.

“Robyn just loves her baby sister and said ‘Lexie fell out of mummy’. Lexie is beautiful with a full head of jet black hair.”

Sharon, 27, said: “Lee was very good but I’m still in complete shock. I was 36 hours in labour with Robyn so I thought I had a long way to go before Lexie was born.

“Poor Robyn was crying and saying ‘I don’t like it, I don’t like it’. I’m just really glad nothing went wrong.”
