talking to a girl who was telling me about her job, we got talking and so i asked whats your job then, same as yours she said but work for Enterprise car hire, i pick up and take home the people who hire our vehicles

i mentioned that sounds like hire and reward, no she says, it standard practice in the hire trade, no money passes hands

id have thought there are much greater issues worthy of discussion, yes, they could be said to gain a commercial profit by offering the service but doubtless some smartass legal eagle will come up with a suitable arguement for the service

i certainly dont intend to try competing with em by hiring out £15,000 vans for peanuts every day...

in fact, why not approach em, offer a discounted service to save their staff time, cover the jobs for em at a sutable rate?

There may well be more important stuff that needs discussing/addressing but if these hire firms were made to adhere to the law of the land then there would be more work for the taxi and PH trade.

It cuts both ways, ive had several decent fares taking rental company drivers to the station or their various depots.

Uttlesford DC have viewed it as illegal and have made the off site car hire operators at Stansted airport get ph licences for their drivers and licence vehicles for doing it. They (the car hire firms) are not happy but the council ahs told them its illegal unless they do it that way....de-license the vehicles and it'll see them in court.

Watch this space!

Under normal circumstances depending on the nuts and bolts of the implementation of the service it could be deemed illegal. There are ways around this for instance if the vehicle hire commenced and finished at the hirers home address. The vehicle could be delivered to the home address the hirer in turn could drive the delivery driver back to the hiring company and the same process performed at the end of the hire.
