Investigation into ‘Price Fixing’ by Cab Drivers

12th August 2008

Jersey cab drivers are under investigation for fixing prices.

An investigation is being carried out by Jersey’s competition watchdog into price-fixing by the Jersey Cab Drivers Association.

But the former president of the group, Sean Courtney, says that although the group agrees prices, they do so ‘fairly and squarely’.

Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority executive director Chuck Webb confirmed that the investigation was being carried out. He said: ‘All I can say is that it is a pending investigation right now, and that because of that I cannot comment. But I can say that it concerns registered taxicabs and that we are in discussions with them. Other than that I cannot say anything.’

I'm sure the courts will have a bloody big chuckle at that one.

I would bet this is about private hire and not Hackney carriages.

I suspect it's related to account contracts.
