So on your system how much settle do your PH pay weekly, as opposed to HC?

For the record I pay £170 per month & the work quantity is reasonable.

But there is another Hackney circuit in Brum that charges £65 per month, but 98% of their work is accounts, & again they have a reasonable quantity of work.

Cheapest Radio Rent at a PH office in Gateshead £85 per week
Most expensive Radio Rent at a PH office in Gateshead £117 per week.

Saloon HC all in 24hr rental in Gateshead around £170 per week.
WAV HC all in (E7 type) 24hr rental in Gateshead around £160 per week.

Saloon plate - £5000
Wav plate - no restriction so licence fee only.

The largest PH firm has the highest rental fees and most cost induced standards.

Thanks for that!

I didn't have a clue what it was when I took the picture off the Internet.

It's good to have a few old 'uns on here, so that us young 'uns can learn all the old cab makes.

Have you got any pictures of pre-1930's cabs that you might post on here?

Lol.

I never complained about the age of PHVs in Brum; not my place to. I was just stating facts.

As far as I am concerned if the council allows PHVs to be 20-25 years old, you can't blame the driver if he wants to drive a relic.

Aberdeen PH work through the same offices as HC. All have meters set to the same rates as HC.
Radio dues range from around £60 to around £150 PW
Cab hire around £200 - £220 PW (exclusive hire). A few quid less for a PH.

Plates are not transferable.
Hire a saloon plate for your cab around £50 PW
WAV and PH plates not restricted so fees only

Hi Everyone,

If you are waiting for your minicab licence and would like to know how my first day went then read on, If you dont care then i suggest you stop reading now lol....

Before i start, I thought it would be easy i mean how could driving a car picking people up / off be hard? well you'll soon find it takes abit of knowledge to earn the £££ and make it worth while.

Well Saturday i started cabbing, (The company i am with use a Xda so no radio - which is one the main reasons i went with them)

Anyway, I started late as i just wanted to learn not earn, So 11AM i signed on and got my first job sent to me, Although i was nervous it was quite enjoyable the address was Sainsbury HITW, Well i know where sainsbury is but what the hell is HITW ??? No one told me the lingo so i phone up my control and asked, they told me is was the whole in the wall around the back (Totally different road to sainsburys) Anyway job done and then moved on.

I stopped working around 6PM And went to the office to pay my commission £15 XDA Fee £20 commisson £30 petrol =£30 = £65 i only earned £63 so I was down £2 worried and dissapointed.

Anyway i leanrned alot that day which i used on Sunday, started at 11 and finished at 8pm with a better take home of £125 And hopefully this will improve with the friday and saturday nights.

The company i work for charge 80p a job and 20% commision on the amount i earn with a weekly fee of £15, this is quite high and if i earn enough i will just start paying rent of £104 p/w + 80p a job we'll see.

Anyway , I am only doing this part time to help pay the bills. I just thoughts i would share my experience.. sad i know lol

I found this on another forum

I think 99.9% of people who subscribe to TDO understand how radio systems work. Whether they be hackney circuits, private hire circuits, or the type Jimbo subscribes to, namely Taxicall.

In short, not interested in virgin experiences of how a private hire Radio circuit works. Why not get a life and post something relevant?

Some people seem to forget that they are talking to seasoned Taxi drivers on this forum, therefore we don't want to read nonsense. we all know how the cab game works so don't try and patronise us with nonsense.

There must though be consideration to the facts surrounding the industry.

The major players within the industry are the people who now charge the biggest fees and impose the standards that allow them further profits.

A PH firm up here is now stating that if you want to work for them as a self employed driver that you must -

Buy a vehicle off them.
Insure it on their policy.
Buy a uniform off them.

Thats as well as doing work at a discounted rate for their account customers ............. and then loosing 10% of that if you claim the money at the end of the week.

Now I know there are good PH operators ..................... but at the end of the day I never hear of them refered to as PH Barons.

Another confusion, which is perpetuated by the "JD" posse.

So are all the drivers in your area either too thick, or too gutless, to stand for this?

Are you suggesting that it is only in the North East that PH operators have this level of control of the activities of the drivers.

And you should remember that Gateshead is deregulated ............... so everyone of them could go and get a FREE WAV HC plate.

The utopia of deregulation?

The problem is when you get to the dereg utopia....you still got to get work from somewhere....and invariably the source of the work doesnt change.....sure you can do the added bonus of 'streetwork'....but the bread and butter stuff is off the phone.

Indeed if you go down the route of buying a new cab your repayments decide you go to work to work....not to sit on a rank that the council have kindly supplied.....although there isnt enough rank space anyway.

True.....if all drivers switch off it will leave the operator in the sh*t......but how many in this trade would risk there wages for that? And you still have to earn a living for your family the next day and the day after.
