If you have the room... you can get what they call a sledge which has a storage tank on it, because it is mobile it doesn't need planning permission.. buy in bulk and sell

buy whats the fire regs on it, derv tanks have to be "bunded" (i.e. have a wall around it able to contain the maximum contents of the tank, surely a LPG tank the size of a truck is much worse proposition?

As long as the tank is at least 3 metres from any building you are ok. You also need to fit a firemans switch. My tank is provided by FLO GAS and all I had to do was make the base and provide an electrician. The tank came and the barriers were errected by the instalation team. You don't need a containing wall because should the tank spring a leak the contents would immediatly turn to gas and dissapear. There are a lot of central heating systems that run on it. I have a 1800 litre tank so that I can fill my vehicles myself. I am having my peugeot 406 converted next week. It is going to cost £1300 plus VAT to convert and I expect to get that back in around 30 weeks then it is profit all the way.

At the moment including VAT I pay 55 pence per litre but the price can be less depending on usage. I also have to pay "rent" on the tank. You can of course buy your own tank and then you can shop around for who is selling the gas the cheapest.
If you dont want to go to the trouble of installing a tank you could, but it is illegal, buy an electric gas pump and use the big propane cylinders to fill your car.

is it Petrol engines only they can Convert or is it diesels

Does a lt of LPG get you as far as a Litre of diesel?

No. Similar mileages to petrol, maybe slightly less.
I think you can only convert a petrol engine.

The mpg is around 90-95% of what I get from running on petrol which is still a massive saving. I have never noticed any change in performance but the immisions are lower on gas than petrol. There are some company's that say they can convert diesel engines to run on gas but I don't know how unless they are modifying the head to take plugs as well.

you can convert deisel engines but its an expensive process, also you can use CNG - ive seen tractor units with big gas tanks, but they were British Oxygen fleet, so they probably get CNG cheap....

Omnitek approaches the issue of converting or replacing of high-polluting diesel engines to clean burning natural gas engines by offering two main options, which in large part are dictated by the level of technological capabilities within the country and financial feasibility.

Omnitek may work with local companies in an effort to convert high polluting diesel engines to clean burning natural gas, or will supply new dedicated CNG engines. (At the customer's request, Omnitek may rebuild/convert the old engine at the Omnitek facility)

-- Under Solution #1 Omnitek will supply engineering support, for a small per-vehicle royalty, to rebuild the engines locally to Omnitek specifications on a "Technology Transfer" basis. This offers an economic benefit and boost to the local economy. Then the engines are being equipped with the Omnitek CNG fuel system, allowing for the engines to be tuned up to the EURO 3 standard.

Converting engines from diesel to CNG requires some good amount of expertise and may involve significant downtime.

Suggested engine modifications to assure engine reliability, optimized power, fuel consumption and emissions may include optimizing compression ratio, valve lift, valve timing, exhaust system and intake manifold. Special attention goes to engine cooling, engine lubrication and the potential issue of excessive oil consumption. A properly modified engine can make the same power as the base engine.
