I was very pleased with my experience of LPG on a Ford Mondeo.

However, the engine wasn't perfect for the conversion so I started trying to find a Vauxhall. They do an engine which is, apparently, perfect for LPG. But, in during my search, I discovered that the Vauxhall engine is an older engine that comes fitted to a very basic car. I decided that I wanted some comfort and bells 'n' whistles so have returned to a Vauxhall Vectra Elite diesel.

I will be back to LPG one day, but only on petrol engined car.

As far as excise duty is concerned, the government have pledged to 'maintain the tax differential' between LPG and petrol until 2010.

don't forget to factor in the engine life so far 3 local drivers have tried converting to LPG. All 3 had to rebuild their engines within 6 months but it wasn't the lpg to blame of course not even when one of them blew his engine up again !

Suffice to say NOONE locally touches the camping gas now to power their cars even though it is available at 2 sites within 5 miles of the town !

That's why it's important to get the right car and the right installer. I couldn't find the right car this time around so I'm back to diesel.
