I seem to recall that one or two garages have tried this BUT the equipment is unreliable and so far more chance of lost sales through technical faults closing the forecourt

I think there are a few supermarket forecourts around where you can only pay by credit card at the pump

I can't believe it's not the case now.

Some cars can take £80-£100 worth of fuel, and false plates cost less than a tenner.

As the yanks say, "do the math'. :?

Little France has got a coffee machine in again and it makes a good latte.
Could you all try and persuade the owner to let drivers have it for a squid a cup???

Lots of the petrol stations in America you have to go inside and pay first then the cashier sets the pump to let you fill up to however much you have paid.

So if you pay $20 then when the pump gets to $20 it switches off.

I guess thats the way forward !!!

I think there will also have to be a facility to prepay by bank-notes at the pump, with the use of folding money accepting machines.

The local BP garage where I fill up asks for pre payment all the time now, they've had that many drive offs they've had to implement the pre pay.

BP have always been the most expensive, you should let them know that if they price matched the other retailers they would not have a problem

In Sweden (Yes I know, Yawn . . .) there are many unmanned filling stations where you have to pay by cash or card in advance otherwise you get no fuel.

But they're always open!
