She was pretty ticked off about it.

Yet, when I pointed out the argument about restriction, how the council had ignored the Best practice guide to take peak periods into account, licence applications, court cases she staunchly refused to complain to the council.

I pointed out what could happen. She still refused.

Why did you not advise her of the marshaled ranks so she knows where to go in future ? Or tell her one of your old pieces of advise " phone a taxi "

I think he lost her at the 'pointed out what could happen'.

Can you imagine how unfortunate a passenger that one was....of all the cabs in edinburgh she gets into his....then is subjected to verbal diarrhea?

Ah yes Ross, the marshaled ranks. Like the one on Greenside, or Mood as it is now.

And that's why folks walk around the corner into London Road where they can hail a taxi. because the ranks are so valuable to drivers that they are prepared to forego the hail in London Road so they can drive round to the Marshaled rank.

And what's at the rank? A fish supper, or a kebab, or a drunk female on her own?

Picking up from the street means you can assess what you're picking up.

Or do you just accept every scumbag without question Ross.

Oops, I forgot. You can't pickup at the Mood marshaled rank either can you? because as a homophobe, racist and a bigot, sweet little old you couldn't run the risk of having to pick up a potential gay, lesbian ot transgender in the "pink triangle" serviced by this rank, could you?

As for "phone a taxi". The rub is that the very radio companies who would prevent more taxis being put on to meet peak demand are the very taxi companies who allow their fones to ring off the hook at these peak periods.

They don't want to answer the fone because they know that the drivers who should be responding to such work are already picking up in London Road because they don't want to service the marshaled ranks either, or be dragged to some fone box to pick up some pashed punter who's probably hailed a cab from the street by the time the driver gets to him. Another bogey. And who needs that on the busy weekend nights when there's money to be made?

This is precisely why our trade is losing work to out of town companies, because customers know that a call to a Livingston company means the taxi will arrive when it says, and at a price that is not a rip off.

Dress it up as you like. But marshaled ranks simply are a visible demonstration of excess demand at peak periods which is not being met by a selfish taxi trade that thinks it is owed a living before its need to service public need.

Go0d for you CC. "Verbal ...." And if a female in your family was to be penetrated by a scumbag because a taxi was unavailable and it took a risk by getting into an unlicensed vehicle, that would make it ok?

You need certified mate.

So what if you do have marshalled ranks, what does that change?

The radio companies, for the most part, don't service the ranks at peak periods. They can't even service the work off the phones. The punter is forced to walk the streets, stand in a rank or phone Ph.

Of course this is acceptable to you CC, as long as it means that false plate values are protected against licensed cabbies getting their own plates.

We can even have a little rape now and again as long as everyone blames the PH.

SNAFU

It's the place where they would rather have a restriction on plates than quality controls.

Oh and guess who would benefit from an artificial plate value? How many plates do you own CC, or should I say your family?

Change the point of the argument....good ploy.

The point is the incident had nothing to do with a lack of licensed vehicles....and you are summising it did.

The vehicle she got into was allegedly licenced.

Good abbreviation....one of my favourites....FUBAR is quite a good one too.

The point was brought by jaspar....he said;

Allegedly licensed by whom and for what purpose?
It wasn't allegedly licensed to ply for hire in Edinburgh, was it?

From reading the initial report I'm not too sure

Quote:
She was picked up outside the Hudson Hotel in Hope Street and the driver took her to Brunstane Road South, where she is believed to have been assaulted inside the car.

Did she pre-book a PH and the driver picked her up on the off chance?

Until more details come to light we're just guessing.
