Driver Not Licensed To Operate As Taxi
4th September 2008
A taxi driver from Keighley who plied for hire in Skipton when he was not licensed to do so has been fined.
Qamar Hussain, 26, pleaded guilty to plying for hire on April 25 and using his taxi without the correct insurance on the same date.
Skipton Magistrates heard on Friday that enforcement officers from Craven District Council saw Hussain in the Waller Hill taxi rank at 10.30pm.
Hussain had his roof light on but was not displaying a valid taxi licence plate to work in the district of Craven.
In mitigation, solicitor Ruth Weir said Hussain was trying to swap his vehicle licence from one car to another.
Miss Weir said: "He was insured to be on the road but not to ply for hire."
She added there had been difficulties with the insurance brokers, of which Hussain was unaware.
Miss Weir said her client was now extremely aware of the importance of making sure that all documents were valid.
For plying for hire Hussain was fined £300 and for driving without insurance he was fined a further £150 and had his licence endorsed with six points.
In addition, Hussain, of Belgrave Road, was ordered to pay £175 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
