Regular servicing would take care of that as indeed having had the emission system fitted to make all cabs at least Euro 3 compliant.

You're correct, however I know some of the shed rental garages are lucky if the oil's changed once a year.

My cab, like most owner drivers is serviced on time, or in my case every 7000 - 8000 regardless.

Sadly not everyone has that standard.

So would removing the turning circle so you can go euro 5 compliant

Do, do, do tell us, Skippy 41, how the steering of a vehicle affects emmissions?

Just for you jimbo as your a shilling short of ten bob
London owners can only use Lti sheit with the exception being the Vito None of the LtI cabs meet euro 3 or 4 without having to resort to modifications the Vito and the E7 meets euro 5

LTI TX2 is Euro 3 compliant. No Modifications.

LTI TX4 is Euro 4 compliant. No Modifications.

The only LTI cabs that had to be converted were the Fairway and TX1 with the Nissan 2.7 engines.

I have to say I don't really understand all the comments here or why the BBC would slate London taxis or any taxis for that matter considering the amount of TAX PAYERS money they waste willingly on taxis for guests who seem to think they are too good to drive their own vehicles around or for public transport. They paid a small fortune for guests on that dance show to attend the gym etc on a daily basis when these guests have means of their own to get there. Also might I ask if any of the politicians are still cycling to work down there or has that gone by the by. I believe the envioroment is in more danger from the wind that comes out of politicians than from any other pollutant around

I'm not sure when Boris answered the question, but he makes a good point re more MOT testing wouldn't have found the fire hazard. :?

Taxi fires

Question No: 2190 / 2008

Valerie Shawcross

Will you reconsider your decision to reduce the frequency of safety maintenance checks on black cabs in light of the recent spate of dangerous fires?

Answer from the Mayor:

I want to maintain high standards for London's taxis but I believe there may be better ways of doing this than through the current system of mid-year inspections. This issue is currently the subject of public consultation and proposals will come before the TfL Board following the end of consultation on 24 October.

I am advised that the fault believed to have caused the recent spate of taxi fires was not picked up in the existing inspection process and would not have been identified by any other MOT inspection.

Hi Toots ,
FYI the BBC do not use licensed taxis for their staff/guests.
They use various london minicabs, and limosines which are mainly supplied by a company owned by Terry Wogan.

GBC in my opinion (ok Thomas?)
A lot of people do care, and take much notice of what is said on the BBC and other media outlets including the papers, and in some cases believe it.
As that well known DJ/broadcaster Robbie Vincent used to say "it doesn`t matter what the truth is,it`s what people believe."

Thus ensuring the tax payer is assured best value?
