The taxi driver was found guilty today and it turns out he already had criminal record for common assault in 1993 1998 and 2006 he gets his sentence tomorrow. Thanks for all the advice given.

found guilty of what?

Common assault has a maximum sentence of six months starting with a fine.

John Prescot got away with common assault when he retaliated against a member of the public who also commited a common assault on Prescott. However if a cab driver were to throw an egg at a punter or retaliate beyond reasonable cause then no doubt he would feel the full weight of the law.

Common assault is a mnor offence so what has this guy actually done?

Immediate revocation of licence, IMHO, not fit and proper.....

Rehabilitation? Is this an offence that can be regarded as 'spent' in due course, in relation to the grant of HC/PHV licence?

Or, is the offence one that should never be regarded as spent when it comes to transporting the public and children?

According to our licensing officer, no conviction is regarded as "spent" when considering the granting of a hackney/PH drivers badge.

Nothing is spent, even a caution 20/30 years ago.

the simple fact is that if we consider ourselves a society about helping others, about consideration, about civilised considered actions towards others and have any slightest christian attitude then you HAVE to say at some point that a person is reformed, otherwise every offender is branded for life, which in turn means they are put back in the postion of having nothing to gain by NOT re-offending.

some crimes are too serious to overlook 100%, murder, rape, drugs, firearms, offences against children, etc

these require a different approach

maybe they can be base operators.....lol
