Sex attack in taxi
http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/3842230.Sex_attack_in_taxi/

A HAMPSHIRE cabbie described as a “pillar of the community” sexually assaulted a passenger in his taxi, a court heard.

Hafiz Younis, 37, manipulated the woman into sitting in the front seat and touched her inappropriately.

The father-of-five, pictured, of Derby Road, Southampton, had picked the victim up with her friend in St George’s Street, Winchester, in December 2006, Southampton Crown Court was told.

He then dropped her friend off near the Wykeham Arms pub in Winchester before parking outside the victim’s home.

He then pushed the seat back and tried to kiss her and put his hand up her top before she managed to get out of the Peugeot.

Younis was found guilty after a four-day trial at Winchester Crown Court.

Defence barrister Thomas Horder said his client was respected at work and in his community and had no previous convictions.

Before sentencing Judge Thomas Longbotham said the accused had pretended he didn’t know Winchester to persuade the woman to get in the front and direct him.

He said: “The first part went according to plan, the second part went according to your plan but not according to her plan.

“You have been a pillar of the local community and a pillar of your mosque, you have had a long way to fall.”

The judge said people use taxis to get home safely and Younis betrayed the trust placed in him.

The court heard as a result of the case he had lost his job as a taxi driver and now worked in an Indian takeaway.

In addition to the suspended sentence which will last for two years, he was given a one year supervision order, was put on the sex offenders’ register for seven years and ordered to pay £500 compensation to the victim.

Younis had his sentence explained to him through an interpreter. Younis has had his licence to drive a Hackney Carriage revoked.
