Robbers knife taxi driver


A taxi driver was attacked and robbed at knife-point by motorists posing as police officers.

The taxi driver was in Grenoble Road, Oxford, near the junction with Nightingale Avenue at about 9pm last night when a black Fiesta with an 07 registration flashing its hazard lights pulled in front and made him stop.

Two men got out and said they were police officers and claimed the taxi’s rear light was not working.

When the taxi driver got out to check one of them pulled out a knife, attacked him and stole £60.

The men then got back in their car and drove away.

The taxi driver needed stitches for a knife wound.

Both are described black, aged about 30 and about 6ft tall.

One of the men was well built with short black hair, clean shaven and was wearing a cream shirt and tie with a jacket and blue jeans.

The other man has a heavy, muscular build and short black hair and wearing a grey hooded top and blue jeans.

Det Con Iain Spencer, of Oxford Robbery Team, said: “The taxi driver was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital to receive treatment for his injuries.

“Luckily his injuries were not life threatening but this is a distressing, nasty incident and we will not tolerate this type of crime.

“I would ask that anyone who may have seen the car or these men before, during, or after the robbery or have any information to get in touch.

“This is a rare, isolated incident and we are working hard to catch those responsible. We will have officers patrolling the area, offering reassurance to residents and available to speak to anyone who might be concerned.

“I would also like to remind motorists that all police officers will always show identification if they need to speak to you. If you are pulled over, then lock your windows and doors and don’t get out of the car unless you have seen some ID.

“If you feel unsure or unsafe then you should drive to the nearest police station or public, well-lit place and speak to the officers there.

“Providing it is safe and legal to do so, you can always call the police on 0845 8 505 505 to confirm whether they are aware that they have officers with you.”

If they are real policemen I would guess that the above actions would get you into more trouble. Can you imagine the reaction from the police if you closed your window and drove off? Or you were sat behind the wheel on the road and you picked up your mobile to make a call?
