At last, the (imperial) pound gets one over the Euro

CONSUMER LAW

EUROPEAN UNION : IMPERIAL UNITS : OPT OUT AGREEMENTS : WEIGHTS AND MEASURES

Charter, David

Dec 17, 2008

The European Parliament voted on December 16, 2008 to permit the UK to retain its imperial weights and measurements systems. Following the ruling, a planned phase-out of traditional weights and measures due to begin in 2009 will be delayed indefinitely. Traders will continue to be permitted to sell goods by the pound and ounce as long as they also display metric measurements.

Can't say I'm a massive fan of the EU, but was it the EU putting pressure on local councils to enforce, or local council officials getting a tad carried away with their new powers? :?
