We have an out of area Hackney operating in our area at the moment. It's undertaking pre booked jobs using a mobile number only and not (so far at least) doing any street of rank work.

I've spoken to both Licensing Units but neither can come up with a good enough reason to have him hung, drawn & quartered, but I'll not give up just yet.

I spoke to my insurance broker today, and he reckons that operating like this could cause any policy to be null & void should the Insurance Company decide to play it by the book regarding relative area loadings.
Any thoughts anyone?

Seeing as how my punter still hasn't turned up....I'll keep tapping away......Does anyone know when Wrexham is going a stage further?

Where is the vehicle licensed?

That aside, do a quick search under 'Berwick' and you'll be as confused as the rest of us

You have my sympathies.

Thanks for the reply and sentiments there CC.
I was going to wait for Berwick to come out on DVD, but OK I'll read it again if you say so!
Spoke to the SLO an the perp's area (Newark & Sherwood seeing as you asked) and he alluded to a court case concerning a similar situation with reference to the insurance angle. The outcome of that case was in favour of the evil out of area driver, but at least he did promise to dig it out and have another look. Does this ring a bell with you at all?

What exactly do you think he is doing wrong?

If he has got a taxi light on then he can be pursued for plying.

And of course his car wont go very far if the tyres don't have any air in them.

what is he doing wrong then?

if a PHV can pickup anywhere pre-booked (in or out of area) surely a hack can?

We have out of area vehicles operating in our area too, they are called private hire vehicles but just like the hackney carriage you mention they are not breaking any laws. Is it your concern that you prefer to see a private hire plate on the back of this vehicle rather than a hackney carriage plate?

Regards

JD

i think he just wants to "see the back" of the taxi in question.....

but we live in a free trade society and the old parish laws on labour movements are even more out of date thean the taxi laws!
