So, for one final time.....just to satisfy my need to dot every 'i' and cross every 't':

Is there a specific legal requirement for us to carry a first aid kit?

(Consider this the second ever vote on TDO)

I think yes....and I quoted the above from the HSE website.

But I appear to be in the minority.

Perhaps you should contact the HSE?

Your Duty As A Self Employed Person

Section 5 of the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981, states that 'A self employed person shall provide, or ensure that there is provided, such equipment, if any is adequate and appropriate in the circumstances to enable him to render first-aid to himself while he is at work.'

Not easy for a Righthanded person to tie a sling on his broken right arm then to dress a profusely bleeding head wound....I can see the merits of this self cure First aid kit

To make things simple, I'll contact the HSE on behalf of the NTA asking if they think self employed taxi drivers should have first aid kits.....any response I'll put on here.

ffs

Dont...you'll plant a seed of inspiration and the next thing you know will be a HSE directive stating that all HC and PH vehicles will be required to tow a trailer full of Medics and surgical equipment aboard it just in case someone should get a paper cut as you hand them your Business card....

The first aid kit is for ones personal use, the fire extinguisher is also the same
So you have to try and put the fire out with a broken leg and arm

No point having a first aid kit if you don't know how to use it.

I say no, cos if it was yes I can assure you I would have to have one, and I don't.

So there.

That makes you an employee, so it is the responsibility of your employer to provide a first aid kit in the workplace, IE the car and possibly the office. So if you are also the employer it is your responsibility. Oh and don't forget the accident book.
