After the initial £57 registration fee, and then £58 every 5 years for a bus operators licence,
why are taxis and PH any different, why are we allowing councils to charge up to £250 per year for almost the same thing, plus most councils want that per vehicle, but if you want to put more busses on your licence it costs nothing

You'll still need to be Paying your LA PH licence fees every year...the £57 is to register your chosen scheduled Route...and the £58 for 5 years is only for the Special Operators licence which is required to Compliment and be used in conjunction with your PH licence, first and foremost you have to be a PH operator before you can even apply for this new licence, its not designed to replace it. At least it looks that way to me..

As for Putting more bus's on the road it does cost you more....after 2 Vehicles you need a full operators licence and need to have a person of Professional competence to be your Transport manager and then you also need to prove that you have sufficient funds to service these extra bus's requirements...and then you move into areas where Bus driver Require ongoing CPC training which'll set you back about £300 per driver per year....and then the Extra Wages you'll need to pay because the Driver that has a PSV licence and does Ongoing training will think he is entitled to wages much higher than your average Taxi or PH driver would expect.

soooooooooooooooooooo.....There aint no saving to be had from slapping extra bus's on the road just because one operators Licence covers them...if there was savings to be had then these routes that the bus companies are saying are no longer feasible would have no need of a saloon PHV style Bus services as it would pay the Bus operator to still cover them.

Blood, all I am puzzled about is the price of the operators licence.
How can one be so cheap from the traffic commissioner yet the councils want an arm and a leg for basically the same service.
if the traffic commissioners office where to issue oporatores licences for taxis and PH they would be a dam site cheaper

In reply to a text received, no you do not need bi monthly inspections, or transport manager, and the service can be stopped at any time.
All the text information sent, the questions, and more where put to the councilor present
As it come under a special licence and you can use a saloon if you wish
Why dont you join and put you version here.

I phoned Mathew Mace on Friday to enquire about it, he says if you register a route and decide its not profitable that you will need to service the Route for 3 months from the date you Cancel it from. another thing he said is that nothings going to happen til about November this year so theres not much anybody can do right now...

That may not be the problem, I think SBC and the bus company's are going to be left in the sheit as the bus company's try to reduce there costs by scrapping some of the routs and SBC cannot force them to cover them, but they may alow the PH to try and make a go of it at a reduced cost to them

maybe..but the subsidy pot is pretty well empty im told...........if your using a 4 seat saloon and only charging £3.50 per head for a round return trip of say 20 miles youve only made £14.00....and thats only if the cars full from start to finish...There could be many days where nobody is requiring the service and your duty bound to drive the route for no income. seems fraught with danger to me.

If there was an SBC subsidy to guarantee you still operated at a profit it woud be great, but if that happened we would all be doing it and as this is not Utopia then thats not going to happen...
