Six quid for just over half a mile does seem excessive.

But wannabee again fails to find out of the circumstances (I'm just waiting to hear it was an asian driver!)

Going back to the original post....under the DDA sussex's reply is correct.

Are they allowed to charge a booking charge though Cap? Some areas are allowed to charge a booking charge as long as it doesn't exceed the starting rate.

I dont believe you can charge a disabled person any more than you would normally charge an able bodied person.

Booking charges can be made via the council table of fares.....but I can more or less guarantee you no council will allow any taxi driver to charge more for a wheelchair

Jimbo was saying this was a PH firm....they aint exempt from the DDA.

The circumstances have too many variables BUT i bet it was a HC on the meter at 1am, with a flag of £4 x 50% plus waiting to drag em out the pub, bingo...

i see someone on that website has fired a shot back to mr walton...

Quote:
Mr Walton should remember, a cab can cost £20,000, insurance £2000, council plates and badges £600 and fuel is £6 a gallon, a radio rented off a base can be £100 a week. Suddenly £6 looks a good deal, if it isnt raining id suggest walking next time. I bet he queries prices in Tescos too......not.

IT'S unbelievable!

My family and I travelled by taxi from the Lincolnshire Poacher to Montaigne Crescent in Lincoln and it cost us £6.40.

According to the AA, it takes one minute and is 0.7 miles. Why get a taxi? We were attending a birthday party and enjoyed a few drinks and not wanting to drink and drive or face the harsh cold weather thought we would get a taxi. On calling the firm involved we were not told about how much their service would cost us until we arrived at our door – £6.40. Who can justify paying or even asking anyone to pay that amount for such a short journey? On calling other firms in the area their prices are around the same. You would get a cheaper black cab in London for what we paid. This is utterly disgusting and outrageous and we think that the firms should review their pricing systems.

It is ridiculous and they should not be allowed to get away with it.

A. WALTON Lincoln.

Id guess this was after midnight and on the meter, hence top rate mate, next time walk...

Mr Walton would have got a cheaper black cab in Lincoln, let alone London.

However, I would like to know how I could travel 0.7 of a mile in under one minute, in a built up area...

I don't know

Ok jimbo I'm here and your point is what exactly. I don't believe it is legal to charge somebody extra for a fare just because they are in a wheelchair. I of course could be wrong

as it was (obviously) a WAV, therefore PROBABLY a hackney on the meter, and as no mention of what time of day, of if there were any waiting time involved i feel it presumptious to simply say the HC was gulity of robbery...

fact first

then we hang em...

You are not wrong.

The PH driver/company discriminate against wheelchair users, which is illegal.

The job was only 0.7 miles, what if the car had travelled 4 miles to get to the job? The Lincolnshire poacher is right on the outskirts of Lincoln on the ring road so I'm guessing they booked a city based PH who implemented a booking charge which they are right to do IMO. Travelling 4 miles for a job which is not going to turn the meter over is out of order if you ask me. The driver needs to make money.

We only charge one way regardless how far they are going. I can't see how you can charge for the milage to get to somebody. If you don't think the fare is worth the effort then don't do the job

If your a rural PH you have to charge from leaving the house....otherwise you might get 10 miles of fare for a 25 mile round trip...but then again People here know and expect that , Best give them rough a price before you take the job.

as for charging all jobs the same...well under Ph its not really set in stone, as the price you agree is between you and the client..it may involve meet and greet, or it may have other demands. However, I personally would Give the disabled the exact same fare price as anybody else.
