Oh get with the beat Reverend, if I wanted to come down there to start up, the only way for me to do that is pay through the nose for something I should be able to get from the council for nothing (licence fee excepted of course), now get out of your pram and pick your toys and dummy up.
The council will derestrict or face court action by anyone who wants a free plate

Why should you be able to get it for nothing :?: :?:

I don't know. I was recently told that in places like York 4 or 5 people own most of the plates. I don't know if that's true but if it is I can see where you are coming from with the 'plate baron' thing. But in Manchester for example plates are issued once a year in 25/30 batches. They get issued to individual drivers who have been on a waiting list for well over 10 years so they have done their time. They have either rented a plate or bought one. So they give up their track and somebody else gets a job and sometimes they take on a driver themselves creating another job. Why do you think that is a bad thing :?:

Correct we are not restricted, but quality controls are to be introduced

What about 5, 7 or 8 seaters?
Define "in comfort"

Age limits are a poor substitute for quality and an excuse for an LO to not do his job.
They favour double shifters, those who work ridiculous hours and those who skimp on maintenence.

Works for everybody.

Plate holders are confident about the future so invest in new vehicles. They take on second drivers who are happy to rent a decent vehicle and not an old shed. The public get modern 24 hour cab service.

Only people who lose out are potless, wantsomethingfornothing, ccj ridden, wantthatone, lazyass tosspots

Reality check. Plateholders borrow heavily to buy plates and then stick them on the cheapest shed they can get past the L.O.
Then they rent them out at exorbitant rates to those who can't afford to buy in.
If that wasn't bad enough, jockeys should be grateful to these benevolant folks for riteously shafting them

One council vote away we have:
Greedy b*star*s who pay thousands for pieces of council owned plastic.
Houses on the line, ccj's and bailiffs all waiting if the council decide to delimit.
Not to mention the prospect of having to work for their own living instead of living off the graft of others.
Must be a scary prospect.

How much did you pay for yours BTW?

They use to say that about slaves, and during the apartheid era, cos they only ever asked the ones who had something to lose, not the ones who would gain by change.

But if the owners are so righteous then surely those renting the cabs will stay renting. So what have you to worry about? :?

PMSL.....Sussex my friend....your going to look back and think like me that comparing apartheid with regulated numbers is a tad ludicrous?

Here is the latest I've heard:

"Decision is going to be made in 8 weeks whether the Stockport council is going to revoke their current decision to deregulate.

At the meeting that took place today 11/03/08, 2 liberals voted for dereg and labours Sheila Bailey voted against so it was 2 against 1, the rest were undecided.

It's a funny old world... my information is that at the meeting tonight the council have agreed to go back and re look at the decision over the next eight weeks....

If the trade had gone to judicial review and won. the council would have had to go through the same procedure... so it's a win for the trade without the cost of a judicial review. and even more cost if they have lost.

From experience it you win a judicial review....... you usually lose in the end anyway.

I have came to the conclusion that the stockport trade are quite mental.

But that is a personal opinion

That was an amendment that was proposed.
