This is a daft rule when you think about it, if you have D1 on your licence you can legally hire a 16 seat mini bus or buy one and use it as every day transport but as soon as it becomes a hack or PH your limited to 8 seats, if the rule was made up to 16 seats it would make life a lot easier

MiDAS stands for Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme. It is usually required for a driver who is going to drive a school's own minibus or a council owned minibus.

yes, but the council have put in the conditions that as well as the D1 the MIDAS is done, nobody else has to date as it wasn't in previous conditions. It costs £65 and can be funded through ILA so I am going to do it, its mostly for volunteers, teachers and stuff that take kids or do voluntary driving. Will put it my accompanying letter and it will suffice that I am booked in for next course.

what the Hells a D1 Licence got to do with driving an 8 Passenger seat vehicle...I thought it only applied 9 to 16 Passenger seat PSV vehicles....and that Midas was just for those Doing school runs etc but not directly for hire or reward where they could drive a Minibus on a car licence because it wasnt a PSV....

The Midas is only a familiarisation of the vehicle, just to make sure you know how everything works and where it is and what to do in an emergency
Any person who has asked to use a council mini bus around here has to do it
It only takes half an hour
