Pub landlord wins right not to fit CCTV cameras: watchdog opposes police insistence on filming: concern over privacy issues among customers.

Guardian, March 12, 2009,

Nick Gibson, a prospective landlord, has won his fight not to install CCTV cameras in his pub after the case was taken up by the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). The police dropped the CCTV condition for granting Mr Gibson a licence after the ICO wrote to the Metropolitan police to warn that the blanket introduction of CCTV in pubs "raised serious privacy concerns". The ICO is planning to pursue the issue of blanket CCTV with the police and the Government, and will also express concern that the Policing and Crime Bill will make it easier for licensing authorities to insist pubs install CCTV.
