So why doesn't all this get media attention :?

If you are offering to help with the media , I am sure a lady Godiva Toots in Liverpool with a few posters stuck to the horse would draw attention to the Points in question.

Some how I don't think it would I could scare everybody away

Seriously though is there no media attention being sought by the taxi trade to highlight this problem :?

Paul Lawry phoned has been swamped with e-mails – will try to get Ministers reply by this Friday Latest.

· Scottish Taxi Federation e-mailed Minister supporting request this morning.
If anybody wishes to e-mail Mr Lawry asking him to extend the consultation period , so that the National trade groups can have time to respond properly..... feel free..

Ref: Extension to ‘Improving Access to Taxis’ consultation.

Thank you for your correspondence about the ‘Improving Access to Taxis’ consultation. The consultation document sets out proposals for and asks for comments on the broad policy direction that the Government should pursue, for example, should the Government continue to consider regulating in this area or should we consider other options for improving access for disabled people to taxis. The document is not a statement of what policies will be or how they will affect areas individually. At this point, the DfT is simply asking for general comments on the approach that we should take. We are not asking for detailed work to be carried out on what may or may not happen in areas or localities. The consultation period is the usual 12 weeks allowed for every other Government consultation in line with guidance issued by the Cabinet Office.

Following the current consultation, the Government will consider the responses and we plan to issue a strategy document in the summer that will set out in more detail the approach that we plan to pursue, working in collaboration with interested groups. It would, therefore, be useful if responses to the consultation addressed the questions we have set out in the document. Any specific proposals included in the strategy in relation to, for example, guidance or the technical specification, will be subject to further consultation later in the year or early in 2010 and a further 12 week period. This should allow ample time for those interested groups to work on more detailed research if they feel they need to between now and then, and to consider more detailed proposals once they have been worked through. The current deadline of 24 April is not the end of the process, simply the end of this consultation period.

Extending the period of consultation beyond 24 April merely delays us and others in making progress with an issue that is important to and affects millions of disabled people, thousands of drivers and hundreds of local authorities. All our stakeholders need clarity on Government policy and to know how we plan to tackle the many issues that need to be resolved. Many groups are awaiting the strategy arising from this document and so the DfT has decided that the consultation period will not be extended. We do, however, make a commitment to further consultation on specific issues like guidance and the technical specification once the strategy itself has been agreed

Regards

Paul

Seems fair enough to me, and those opposed to any particular part of the consultation, or even all of it, have only themselves to blame if they don't respond to the consultation.

I will be very interested to see how many member partners in the Meeting of Minds Taxi group actually respond.

I know one that will, but their response will be down to their members. :-$

I think something isn't right about this but not sure what. It's kind of like decisions have already been about certain things and they are leaving other things to be decided on because at this current time there isn't a vehicle for them to make a decision over. Of course that is only my opinion :D

Plenty of fairies in my manor.

Let's see how many responses from the trade the DfT get, and if it's only a few then one can only conclude the vast majority of said trade don't give a stuff.

I'm not sure too many in the trade, who are concerned about the WAV issue, haven't heard about it via the trade press.

And if they haven't, is the DfT really to blame for this trade's apathy? :?
