Tougher medicals proposed for Pendle taxi drivers


A HIGHER standard of medical tests could be introduced for taxi drivers in Pendle.

Members of Pendle Council's Executive were last night recommended to agree that all hackney carriage and private hire drivers should undertake a higher medical standard than at present and undergo tests at 30, 40, 45, 50, 55 and 60 years of age, and every year after that.

The proposal was deferred at the January meeting for furhter information to be obtained on fees currently paid by bus and lorry drivers for medicals, the possibility of negotiating a standard feee with local GPs and the possibility of combining the medical fees with the licence application fee.
