See todays Lincolnshire Echo.

Is it legal?

I for one (of many) will NOT be taking part.

Carrying passengers on separate fares? I don't think that's legal, is it?
Picking up at a bus stop certainly isn't unless you are a bus.

The meter would have to be on, and no more than that can be charged.

Any charge lower than the set rate is legal. Separate fares are legal.

For this to be legal the driver just puts on the meter, and at the end of the ride charges whatever he wants under the metered fare.

So if he only picks up one mush, he can charge a pound, two mushes two pound. However if he picks up five and the meter is only showing £4.80 he can only charge that.

All that said, such a scheme is doomed, and causes far too much grief for it's worth.

 here we go again only HCs can do this legally. The Original hirer on a HC/PH must agree with the extra pick-ups before start of journey. The HCs must also comply with VOSA on operators bus routes. They will even get a grant for doing it, win win situation.

I'm not sure they are bright enough to go for TaxiBus subsidies.

Win Win my backside...its just discounting prices on what HC already do...cant you be hailed anywhere in your own licensing area anyway. Besides how do you know whos wanting a lift into town from someone wanting a lift to somewhere else and on top of that there will be people wanting dropped off at different places. and then theres the issue of takings..how can the owner ensure his driver is declaring all the takings if the meter doesnt back it up. and if its a bus type service it would need a ticketing system for receipts...and to compound the issue you night get Mrs meek-n-mild hemmed in along with complete strangers like Psycho Bob and Chainsaw Bill...to many dangers and not enough thought in this enterprise...

and just imagine how excitable the bus companies are going to be...if they cant shift people profitably on a 52 seater bus at present how they going to do it with a bunch of hacks muscelling in on their business

But the idea, if you can call it an idea, more like grasping at illusiory straws, has been vetoed.

I am well [edited by admin] off, (why DO we have the no swearies on here, I mean, we're all grown ups. well some of us. oh well,) spent the day down the rank telling expectant punters, " no I won't take you home for a pound"

So there you go, kicked into the long grass. Nightmare day, and where is the man who had this stunning idea, this [edited by admin] stunt?

The stunning [edited by admin] is on holiday.
