No I cant.....apart from making the only vehicles licensed to carry passengers for hire and reward TX4's.......and that wont happen.

These things will happen because theres some sick b*stards out there.

I no lover of TX/LTI but I see your point. KISS mentality. A rapist would have to buy a TX4 to go out to play. Not cost effective for him. Even if he that stupid to buy one, he would be a lot easier to catch. However I still say an all HC fleet country wide with TAXI signs plates etc is almost as effective. Do away with half the licensing officers and legalise cobbling for all.

That is exactly what it needs - standardisation!

The PH sector has resisted the same colouring and gets tarnished because of it, by adopting xxx colour at least you would limit the amount of cars trying to pass off.

I like yellow best, as it would show up private hire only in black along both sides of the cars better, but as an alternative paint them in the councils colours

Let them be taxis then

But that does go against the concept of 'private' hire.

most PH started up because councils restricted cab numbers and it was an alternative to do a similar job

Whilst door signs can help people recognise a PH when it arrives it's not the hardest thing in the world to copy is it

I agree, but I can assure you unlicensed iffy folks wont want anything that will make them easier to trace. Even magnectic signs leave a trace once taken off.

And the chances of an unlicensed vehicle putting on and taking off stickers are IMO nil.

I've always been a fan of proper door signs, and nothing I have ever read or seen has changed that view.

PH started up because they were allowed to be licensed in the first place.

Are or were PH hackney wannabe's? I dont think so.....PH is a different trade, offering a different service at a different price.

Private hire were up and running for many men years before the 1976 Act came into existence.... the reason the act came into existence was because councils had no authority or control over these existing companies, and the cry at the time was..... you've got it.... public safety, those were the days... my first private hire driver's licence in 1976 was two shillings and sixpence a year....
