Hi all. I am basically trying my best to set up a taxi office for private hire. I think the best way to get going in a taxi office and expand straight away is to find a location where you can get plenty of walk ins from the public and then you can have enough work for at least 10 drivers without even having any phone work. For example a premises next to a shopping centre or a nightclub etc.

I have seen premises going in the town centre in my town which would make an excellent location. However they are all on double yellow lines and there is no parking facility with the premises. I have contacted my local council several times to ask about if they would allow me to operate from them but they always come back and say there would be a planning refusal due to highways etc.

Most taxi companies in my area are successful due to having walk-in trade and base fares. Hence on top of that they have a moderate amount of phone bookings. This is my biggest problem to setting up a taxi office. If i can find an office right in the middle of the town centre i think i can profit within a few months. As oppose to getting an office with no walk ins and no base fares where we have to rely on only the phone.

Please can anybody advise on the best way to find a prominent location to set up a taxi office where a lot of walk in taxi base fares can come in. Are there any ways around planning regulations ? Thanks

Have you tried buying in to an existing business? Or an outright purchase of an existing business? Because that is the only short cut way.

Or a nice little office in the local station.

yes lads you are quite right. A train station, a car showroom location would be ideal. But as one of you stated a good location would already be filled. However as i may add there are still locations available. For example the main road in the town centre, the high street.

There are shops and offices availble to let. I have tried opening there, but the council stated i would not get taxi office permission there due to highways. Is there any way around this?

All those london minicab offices they are all set up and outside there is no stopping and red lines. How do they get planning there?

Is there anybody on this forum who has a taxi office in a good location?
