Details to follow:-

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The NLCA has been defending one if it's members in the 1st "SELFDRIVE" challenge.
This morning (in court) it has been confirmed that the case against our member collapsed.

This case has proven that if "operated correctly" the selfdrive system is perfectly legal....
Another example of the NLCA working behind the scenes to help its members..

Cases collapse for a million reasons, and none of them are because someone or something is deemed to be legal.

Only a not guilty verdict means something isn't illegal. A collapse is merely a collapse in the case.

....And it needs to go to higher courts to be a definitive and binding interpretation of the law.

I think that will only happen when someone dies in a vehicle under this scam and the insurance company don't pay out.

Maybe the court decided that the vehicle owner was working within the law so there was no case to answer.

Maybe Russ should give more information and save us all from guessing?

If that were the case, they would be making damn sure everyone knew about it..

The case was this morning and Russ posted at lunchtime. I assume that more details will be made available in the next couple of days.

Then we would have a not guilty verdict.

My guess is that someone in the prosecuting team f***ed up, and the trial barrister pointed out procedural errors, and the case was closed.

It all depends on the definition of collapsed.

I think the Limo Association is trying desperately to big up their input and trying to spin that self-drive is legal.

Not surprising they haven't got a f***ing clue what they are on about.

It's like saying that cos Sir Alex Ferguson got off his speeding fine on a technicality that speeding is now legal.

Trial collaspe cos witnesses don't attend, or change their statements, or the prosecution have messed up their prep. I could go on but trials don't go ahead for umpteen (or did I say a million) reasons.

I very much doubt this collapsed cos the bench deemed the self-drive act within the law. TBH it's above them and they would have case stated it up to a higher court.
