Ali, you are missing one huge point here mate, old wreck being patched up vs new or newish motor.

Ok old wreck 1st, I know for a fact a 10 year old TX or Metrocab will need 2k pa spent on it, and I don't care what anyone else is going to say, 2k is about right to keep one fully fit.

New vehicle, on average iirc is going to be £150pw over 5 years.

So looking at that it looks like you are right, but, the issue you forget is this, you will spend all night in a drum kit, it will cost you two nights money everytime it breaks down minimum, and you are about as tax efficient as a 1972 XJ12.

And if I'm honest I'd love to see the back of the that will do crew in the trade, you wouldn't drink from a chipped glass in a pub, nor would you sit on a broken seat on the train, so why expect the paying public to sit and pay to ride in a clapped out old cab?

not much point then  but ill say one thing.
where are you and what standard are youre vehicles tested to.
and are you all wav.

there are no clapped out old wrecks in edinburgh that i know of.
plenty older motors though.
that meet the same high standards as the new ones.

i know yourtype top prices for the plates and top prices for the cabs an dlets keep it all restricted, and closed

yer gonna have to go through this 2k for an old metro to keep it fully fit.
you see i still have the reciepts which i will gladly scan of all the work i had done.
most if it as part of a mantinence program(only ever broke down once) brake shoes collapsed.
the rest i had done because i wanted it done.so no old wreck.
and also no rust :)

and it cost me no were near that figure of 2k pa.

not even with the price of the 1999 cab included in that 2k.

so care to explain .

oh i forgot you dont care what anyone says

Ours are 6 yrs + 2 extentions if the cars history shows it's passed it's tests 1st time and hasn't been banged about, TX's and Metro's are 12 years, but they all look like they need replacing after about 7 years, especially the TX's.

And the difference between me and you is I've been brought up to achieve rather than expect a free lunch, so never mind about restrictions and top prices as you put it, I wanted a HC plate so I stumped up and bought one, I wanted my own house, so I stumped up and bought one, I like a nice clean modern car, so I stumped up and bought one, if I want to go on holiday I save up until I can afford one, but modern day Britain doesn't like that, it likes ppl who expect all for nothing and at the precise moment they want it, whether that's you or not I really don't know, but what I read does suggest you could be a BMW scratcher.

And I'm so glad I don't live in where you are, if 2k's worth of hammered out ex cab is the best you can do for ppl, I think that's poor, mind you if there weren't so many of you you'd be able to afford a newer car wouldn't you?

thanks for the reply
even although you failed to answer any of my queries.
and failed to tell me where you get youre prices from?

all this super achieving doesnt make you special you know.

i wanted to kick the council ass,so stumped up and did so.
i wanted to spend little on a cab so i did so.
i maximised my profits,ohh yes i did!!
while you poured money down the drain.
and if you had proper competition then you would have to look a bit closer at youre costing's
and perhaps stumped up just the right amount instead of to much.
only quantity controls allow you to do as you do !!

It's got nothing to do with snobbery mate, and I did answer your questions, but as mentioned by others earlier if the answer doesn't suit you, you just resort to the kinda reply we have here now.

BMW scratcher = someone who hates anyone having something they either don't or cannot afford themselves.
