I have been to EMA this afternoon to drop a customer off. As you go through the car park barriers there is parking on the right hand side that is for taxi picking up. The whole lot has now been cordened off and signs put up saying to use the main car park. Could this be being done to get more cars to park further from the terminal to make sure that you can't pick up within the free 10 minutes that you are allowed? Or could it be something to do with the new private hire company that has the franchise for the airport getting it closed off to make life difficult for customers of other company's? The new company have their cars "ranked" up right outside the arrivals doors.

It's to extract as much money out of you as possible and to help the new taxi company who have got the contract. They'll not get much business with the prices they charge.

Never been to this airport but I would guess it's to get more folks to pay the crazy parking prices.

I am sure it will be the new private hire company, worked the same way in Leeds he will also be advertising that he is the only taxi company that can pick up and drop off a the airport.

He will have all other taxi advertisements removed from the airport grounds.

One of his down falls is his prices, anybody working this airport should start advertising their services and prices, he has lost a lot of work from the airport in Leeds to a local private hire company.

Also contact the local press telling them how the airport are not giving passengers a choice of taxi/ph service as they are making it difficult for other companies to drop off and pick up.

He will have paid a substantial amount for this franchise and will want his money back sooner rather than later.

The price bench mark in Leeds Bradford Airport tender was no more than the Hackney meter charges, he is now charging more than this as he did not do his home work correctly, the only person who suffers are the travelling public.

I would think it would depend on whether he makes his money from settle off the drivers he has working his system or by way of % of takings. If it is the latter he may come unstuck if it is the former he may lose out eventually but not until the drivers have worked long enough to realise there is no money to be made because their charges are too high

Your not missing anything Sussex, it's Policed by G4S who are Group 4 and Securicor rolled into one.

Outside the man arrivals door you have the PH office where all the PH are ranked up waiting for customers to arrive, across the road you've got the car park where other vehicles and Taxis park, the Airport owners have kindly painted 5 Taxi parking bays for taxis to park and wait for passengers.

They used to let you park free for 30 minutes, that's been changed to 10 minutes. When I drop off there I tell the passengers to ring me when they are coming out of customs, I'll go into the car park and pick them up and get out within my 10 minutes.

East Midlands is becoming one of the biggest air freight depots in the UK.

They arent making it easy are they, ive been up there 4 times in the past few days, only "authorised vehicles" can now drop or pickup where it was open season before, yet theres a seperate "authorised vehicle" lane and barrier!

it makes no difference to me, im ex-businesspost-vanman, i just stop and drop!

and mine are all pre-booked and prepaid, they wont go looking for a "autorised vehicle" when ive had thier money two weeks prior!

when i drop off i show em where to be and when to ring, and i wait up the road, or on the services, or if imminent, on the garage - but i always go in and buy a can of pop - it seems fair as its a little bit for them, unlike the ones who go into the garage and thier passengers walk down to them, usually not taxis/PH though.

In Leeds he charges £110 a week base rent then a percentage of the fares.

He charges £19.95 to Leeds City Centre, the driver gets between £12 & £14, he will be probably working the same way at EMA

I'm going down there this morning so I'll let you know what I think.

got told to "park in a bay" - how stupid, 1, it takes up a bay, 2. ive gotta find one and 3. bays aint wide enough to let passengers out of a tourneo (of which dozens go in daily)

just park across the back of the parked cars in bays, if told off claim yopur deaf

Jesus what a cock up, they have made all taxis park out of view of the main arrival doors. Looks like the owner of the new Taxi / PH firm at the airport is getting his way.

I have rang the airport and they told me the taxi parking area has been temporarily closed to protect the workforce who are erecting a new shelter of some sort.

Stanstead also has a rank for it's chosen pocket liner / Minicab operator.

But, (so I've heard) if you hang it up long enough at the drop off zone a fare nearly always walks out when they see a Taxi opposed to people carrier.

Can't condone it of course, stealing work from a PH firm operating a monopoly, heaven forbid.

There was no one working there today when I went down.

How strange, a building workforce doing nothing on a Friday, yet leaving the chaos to those of us that choose to work the weekends.
