Well done to the cabbies for making a stand against this stupid course, lets hope there's more of this to come.

Can you edit your post please Nigel by reducing the number of Cheer-leader Smileys, 'cause it's screwing up the page width mate.

Cheers.

The Btec and the NVQ are seperate courses. You don't have study booklets for the NVQ.

The thing I didn't like about this Charnwood course was the fact that the only provider in Charnwood for the Btec was a private hire operator co.

Whilst I agree that the course may appear to be simple to some there are still some drivers failing these multi choice questions. This is basic level btec if you want something a bit more substantial do a higher level.

Skippy you can't have your Btec just cos you got 5 questions right you would have to get all of them right

I think Cardiff LA knew that this was likely to happen, they have put it in force for new drivers - but not existing drivers.

The way that I think they will go will be to force/encourage existing drivers to take the test, by dangling a carrot in front of them that they will then give BTEC examined drivers access to better trading conditions i.e permission to drive into pedestrianised shopping areas or rank outside the Train station.

Ironically Cardiff only yesterday have now decided to put out on a regular basis a "Cardiff Taxi Driver Newsletter", the aim to is to introduce " A Gold Star Accreditation Scheme" for drivers to include "Level 2 BTEC", so what was Level 1 BTEC ?

I know one or two think that the BTEC is a good idea, but from what I can glean it seems to be a very condescending piece of garbage with no real thought being put into it that still tries to treat us like a two year old.

I take great offence to being treated like a two year old, as my missus says I act like a six year old - so there.

There is a difference, as I'm sure Toots will tell you on here soon.

The Level One Btec exam is always taken on the first floor & Level Two Btec exam is always taken on the second floor!!

Ffs they're complaining that it's too easy as is so why would they want a level 1 :? Anyway in answer to the question there isn't one in road passenger transport as far as I am aware. I think they only use level one in life skills and work placements etc

Was this won by the drivers on the basis that they had to pay the £120 fee themselves or on the basis of the BTEC not being required?

Three taxi drivers who were suspended after they refused to pay £120 to take a multiple choice test have taken Charnwood Borough Council to court and won.

Well done to those lads, and they will be put on the TDO 'Roll of Honour' in due course. =D> =D> =D>

The course is a f***ing joke, it's has no value to the trade, but plenty of value to those not in the trade.

If councils wish to make these courses an entry criteria, then so be it, but leave those of us in the trade alone, and stop pi**ing around trying to teach experienced drivers things they learnt within a week of getting their license.

Most of them.

But IMO offering the Btec to new drivers is a good thing, offering the NVQ to existing drivers is also a good thing. Insisting though is a bad, and, as the courts says, an unreasonable thing.
