The latest that I have heard is that the building work is for a new Valet parking drop off point. The work is due to last 4 weeks. They have apparently dedicated and marked out some taxi bays on row "D" which are wider than their normal bays. Unfortunatly the public are just parking in these bays so you won't be able to get near them.
I have been told that when the work is complete the closed bays will be re-opened and will be vigoresly enforced 24-7 to ensure that only licensed vehicles are using them.
If what they say is true, hopefully it should improve things for us. I will wait and see. :D

To some of us, "meet and greet" means that you meet and greet the customer in the arrivals hall. Our customers expect us to be there.

that is reflected in the price though, bare-bones is "DIY find the taxi if you wanna get home"

I can add £15 for a M+G service plus £10/hour waiting....im easy, but if they are phoning round for prices they aint getting the frills...

Spot on grandad, just add the parking charge to your price. Good customers who want good service will pay a reasonable cost and if you do the job right they will come back to you again. Repeat business is the name of the game :D

I dont object to doing the M&G but not on a bare bones basic fare to the airport when i havent even added the £1 in and £1 out fee....

if the fares £30 can you see em paying 50% on top fpr M&G when the alternative is to phone me?

ill nuy a merc 500 and aim higher...

the "drop off" zone is now open again - the paint must have dried on the "red route" doubkle stripes.

I am (almost) incensed by this stitch up at EMA.I do indeed plan to write to the local paper. Not only is it an obvious yet misguided attempt to steal work from non rip off airport transfer firms but I feel there is a public safety issue here.
Instead of just having to cross a service road(for buses and said Arrow Cars) to get to the Taxi pick up point,customers...let's not forget that word, are now being forced to cross the car park at it's busiest point near to the entrance barriers. As we all know we are talking families here laden with luggage and small children. It is going to be chaotic. They then have to locate their taxi and negotiate all the taxis coming and going.I predict an accident sadly. Then they may see that they have put the greed of a private hire owner above public safety.
As for the contracted firm, who indeed now have 'The ONLY door to door service at EMA' on their vehicles, well let's see...
A)If they were they wouldn't be able to cope in a million years
B)This is surely a monopolies issue as I heard they would try and get rid of all other taxis using the airport!(I think a solicitor would like to tackle that one)
C)As mentioned the prices!I rang for a quote to Belper which would clock around £35-38 on a Derby meter. They quoted £52.60 for a 5 seater!!!!
I shall be adding this valuable info to my website.
Regards
Derby Ram
PS.Dropped at Luton today, now they are charging a £1 for a drop off with 10 min limit.
PPS.Be careful, you get 9 minutes not the advertised 10 at EMA to get out before a £1.80 charge.
