Can anyone see anything wrong with this advert placed in every local Fife paper job section. The papers cover 4 different taxi zones. The company are a Private Hire firm and it is the belief of the trade here (public and PHV) that this Company is in coohoots with Fife Council as the council drag their heels on many issues involving this company. This advert has caused many complaints through here today.

In conjunction with and on behalf of Fife Council
Taxi Central Ltd
are actively seeking to enter into partnership agreements in all areas
of Fife including Kirkcaldy and Glenrothes. If you would like to start
your own business, or are an existing taxi/private hire owner
please phone for details
number was printed

I await your comments with interest

I agree, I dont think an LA should give the impression they are in cahoots with any private business.

Are the council short of funds and hoping that they can get some more by advertising for drivers and operators to help them get them
Do they restrict taxi numbers and why have they still got zones
We are getting rid of ours very soon

Yes they still have zones Kirkcaldy, Glenrothes, Leven, North East Fife and West Fife which used to be all the various towns Dunfermline, Cowdenbeath etc but they opened this zone up and it has been a disaster all the taxis go into Dunfermline at weekend nights and all the other towns far too many to mention have no taxis dooh  There is a limit in all zones. NE Fife just got a limit added it used to be open but they got an influx of new applicants from Dundee when it went tits up over there with de-reg. St. Andrews is now awash with taxis absolute joke but at least it now has a limit. I agree that Councils should not be involved with individual companies this has casued massive unrest in Fife today the Council LA phone has been red-hot with complaints Ii believe. This Company have been the subject of many complaints regarding planning issues, seagulling, untendered contracts awarded to them, undisclosure checked drivers doing school contracts, etc etc etc and each and every time the Council have turned a blind eye or not answered the query. Now the truth seems to be appearing

Not a chance mate know for a fact that they all go into Dunfermline where the big bucks are. They leave their phvs to clean up all the short wee local hires :-|

Removing zones is nonsensical and what Kirkcaldy cabbie has written is proof of it.

Why do taxis need zones, but PH don't? :?

Because PH should be prebooked whereas taxis are on demand?

Because the reality is that all the taxis from hicksvilles go and cherry pick an area they know little about, leaving their own areas and punters.

Maybe we should consider the knowledge system.

In that godawful place in scotsmansland was dezoned and a knowledge test was dreamed up, how on earth could someone from 20 or 30 miles away know the streets of a town in another part of the area, and vice verse.

I thought you were in favour of quality controls, because even with the best will in the world, I don't know the streets of Penrith (18 miles away population 20,000) or Workington (30 miles away population 50,000).

I'm a big fan of quality controls, and a sound knowledge of a same council area 20 miles away is as good a quality control as there is.
