I applied for my licence a few weeks ago and have noticed a section in the application pack notes about the mandatory training. I've never put much stock in this kind of enforced, jingoistic, box-ticking crap. I lost even more respect for it when I saw some guy who used to do inductions for a well-known Glasgow stewarding company has now set himself up as a trainer delivering the course.

I'm wondering if any Glasgow cabbies have done the course and what their thoughts were.

I'm not a Glasgow driver, but I can tell you that you will learn a little from the course, but not a lot.

I've seen you express your views on the courses in other threads, Toots, I'm not slating the course before I do it. I'm just not a fan of pointless work creation schemes but, in an attempt to be fair and balanced, I'm asking others to see what they think of it.

I suspect it's going to be a lot of "How to carry a suitcase" and "Conflict resolution" but I'm prepared to do the course with an open mind. I was just looking for a heads-up from someone who might have done the course I'm about to do.

If the training is mandatory you have no choice if you want your badge, irrespective of the quality of the course.

Exactly, that's the part which is kind of sticking in my craw.
