in my case the bus would be nearer £5-1200 not thousand. a wee reflection on the salubriousness (is that even a word?) of the premises. As for the driver, he make taxi drivers look the epitome of panaché

If the service being offered to take the lads to the darts match is also offered to anyone else wanting to go to anywhere, then it's legal, or a goodwill enterprise.

If they only do that run, then the pub is gaining an advantage, which then become 'hire and reward'.

What advantage is the pub gaining?

Punters?

When the punters get on the bus they are being taken away from the pub. What kind of advantage is that.

Come to our pub and get a free bus home?

I think there is an advantage.

Presumably the punters spend money in the pub before leaving and on their return.

That as you say is your presumption. Not necesarily a fact.

Their customers drink beer there rather than at a pub that doesn't offer the 'free' bus service.

I think the phrase is "with a view to profit" rather than whether there's actually a charge made.

If a pub offered free drinks but charged an entrance fee, then using grandad's argument no liquor licence would be required.

And, of course, it's the same with the "free" tuk tuk service in another thread.

I'm pretty sure there is a case here, regardless if he charges or not the bus will be tagged to the business anyway, he'll probably be offsetting costs against tax each year, and the real point if it's a 16 seater he needs a PSV licence to drive it with passengers in relation to his business.

 just noticed Sussex covered most of that in post 3.

If its in an area like this hes safe, its too far for cops to come to AND get back without clocking overtime

everyone who drinks in the pub behaves, cos theres only the one, get barred and its a 5 mile walk to the next one...

if the darts club/team ipay to use the minibus , this is legit, as the owner of the minibus can get a section 19 or 22 permit , to take cash for running costs of the club,

i am a member of a club and doing the same, i am a volunteer but i own a minibus only 10 seater as i carry the clubs equipment,
section 19 and 22 states you can charge passengers but not for profit,

If there are more than a couple of darts buses in the whole UK with those permits I would be amazed.

If they are going to operate under those permits, then they might as well get licensed.
