This "disabled" looks a good idea, and something to aim at

I sat in Morrisons saturday having brekky and watched the "disabled" come and go, i didnt see ONE wheelchair, but i did see plenty of 08/09 reg motors with "nil" on the tax disc fee.......

where do i apply, cos most, if not all the drivers+passengers seemed fitter (and better off) than me....

Must be a Morrsisons phenomena...I see the exact same thing from my morrison cafe to...sometimes not even a walking stick and more often than not its a fine solitary healthy specimen of Homo sapien that springs forth from the blue badged invalid machine thats hogging the wheelchair bay..

The vehicle bought on Mobilty Benifit is, in a lot of cases, not driven by the person receiving the benefit, but by a third party, usually a family member, because tha claimant is unable to drive. That part is perfectly legal.

What is not legal is the use of the Blue Badge for disabled parking whilst not accompanied by the claimant & it's questionable if the family member driver should use the vehicle as his / her own run-around.

Well..the Family members up here that do the driving must have real crappy memories..as they always seem to forget to take along the person that the bloody car belongs to..

True, and they only cost around £12K.

But you still have to contend with driving a vehicle that looks wan*.

PMSL.....and dont have black windows, and dont dance, and dont have big f*ck off wheels so I can look like a gangsta

That's about right ..... it's quite a scam in Brum too.

About a year ago the police & benefit people did an operation in a side street by the open air Bull Ring market, where it was known that the dead end street invariably was full of Blue Badge cars on double yellow lines. As people came back to their cars they stopped them & asked them to show the reverse of the Blue Badge where the holder's photo is attached. When the photo did not match any off the people returning to the car they asked where the Blue Badge holder was + invariably they got a story, 'Just dropped her of', He'll be along in a few minutes' etc.

But the benefits people were prepared via computers + already had the Blue Badge holder's details + phone numbers to hand from the details visible on the Blue Badge on the car's dashboard while the car occupants were away shopping. They then phoned the Blue Badge holder to ascertain where they were + invariably they were at home + had not been out that day. Dozens of Blue Badges were confiscated that day for improper use.

I think all Hacks should be WAVs, with hydraulic ramps, straps and able to carry all types of wheelchair at the cost of some space, say 3 seats, reducing hacks to a max of 2/3 able bodied + wheelchair, no tipping seats allowed

there should be mandatory 5 week training courses and handling courses for all hacks, no hack vehicle/WAV should be allowed over 5 years of age and only new ones plated.

Great idea ..... council own the fleet of vehicles & employ drivers at £40K per annum with union rights ..... I'll have a bit of that ..... shame council's won't.

A few years ago there used to call them ambulances..... that was before they transferred the responsibility of moving the disabled to the taxi trade... saved the government a fortune...

Insane or not, think outside the box.

We are all self-employed ..... does the government care whether the legislation they bring in under the Equality Bill / Act with regard to the type of vehicle we must use screws us up?

Of course they don't ..... if you & me don't like it then that's tough. If we leave the trade there's always another gullible influx into the trade of newbies.

Do the government care? Do they hell.

The small reduction in income would be well worth the peace of mind.
