A CHESTER-based taxi driver has died following a road traffic collision in Shotton this morning (Monday, October 12).

North Wales Police received a report shortly after 10am of a one-vehicle collision on Chester Road West.

An ambulance was called to the scene and the 44-year-old driver was taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

He worked for Chester-based taxi company, Kingkab, and was driving his taxi at the time of the collision, but was not carrying any passengers.

The crash caused chaotic scenes in Shotton after the car, a Peugeot 406, crashed into pedestrian railings and hit the light control box putting the traffic lights out of action opposite the junction with Pizza Hut and B&Q.

An investigation is underway and police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision, to contact officers at the Eastern Roads Policing Unit on 101, if you are calling from Wales, or 0845 607 1001 (Welsh line) or 0845 607 1002 (English line).

Alternatively send a text message to 66767 or email – northwalespolice@north-wales.police.uk.
