I had a Tdci 130/6 speed mondeo, 04 plate, rarely saw +45 mpg, but it was a bit too "hairy" and hard to resist, if you follow

is the Superb 1.9 underpowered?

Yes and if driven sensibly you can get nearly 900 miles from a tank of 70 liters
I regularly returned 550 to 600 in taxi use

Yes and no the superb can match the Octavia on long runs
In my octy I have driven from the Borders down to Plymouth and back to junction 15 on the M6 Keel srvices just over 600 miles the octy only has a 55 litre tank
and its the 1.9tdi 105 bhp one
Skoda have now brought out a 1.6 tdi 105bhp CR octy and according to real life usage its even better

Dont touch the 2 ltr 140 tdi the turbos go

Done both the Mondeo and the Octavia, and the Octavia wins by miles.

I rarely get into 5th gear and only see motorways when i cross one on a country road/bridge...

I must be light footed* to get 37-39mpg out of a Tourneo (not the connect version either)

something like this then...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2006-Skoda-Octavi ... 4145e6978a

*light footed, not light on my feet or limp wristed.........
