That's right, I remember now. Thanks.

He wanted a de-limited taxi trade, and no markings or roof signs on PH.

So that in 99% of rural areas saloons would become PH, leaving next to no hacks available, due to the cost of the dam things, or to make sure that the 85% of the walking disabled population cannot obtain a cab from a rank

not much point HAVING hacks in the country, no ranks and not much chance of seeing anyone to flag me down anyway

Nope..just as many per head of population....but in a rural are there is no ranks for them to find a TAXI...they would have to pre book....and if they pre book then not every vehicle would need to be WAV..only the vehicle that was sent out to collect them would need to be a WAV if thats what they required...and theres enough WAVs going about to operate in such a manner...Simple

Not quite so simple though. Unless all or at least the vast majority are WAV, wheelchair users will have to wait longer than anyone else.
That means a substandard service and defeats the object of the exercise.

Not at all,.....available WAVs travel just as fast as saloons...no reason for it to be a slower service..

It's slower if the nearest 4 vehicles are inaccessable and they need to wait for the fifth.........which out in the sticks could be many miles away........

Transport up neednt be any slower.......if you cant find a WAV to pre book in 25 minutes then theres usually a Charity run WAV hiding in every nook and cranny....trouble is them guys have a reluctance to actually work anything after 5pm...however...they still make the the running of a WAV a whole lot less profitable if profitable at all..maybe they should ban the Volunteers and open up this market to genuine business market.

anyway..if its PH its not so much a case of which vehicles closest....its more a case of you pre book the vehicle for the time you require.

Its equality theyre after not a WAV every ten yerds in area that so sparsely populated that it puts greenland to shame..what ever vehicle type you book you up here you have to think about it in advance...unless you live in the giant Metropolis of Galashiels or Hawick.

You just don't get this at all do you?

If Joe public phones for a lift ASAP and waits 20 minutes, Jill Public in her wheelchair shouldn't have to wait 45 minutes for the same service. That's what they are after - regardless of how unprofitable it is to provide. If Jill waits half an hour and so does Joe, they will be happy.
It's not about demand or market forces or profitability. If it was, legislation wouldn't be needed.

Nope..explain it again!

Yes I get it...but no i dont see the need for 250,000 wavs nationally when we know full well that they are hardly ever used by those theyre designed to carry...it may appease the frenzied equalitists but it goes way above what the real demands dictates.

anyways...it keeps this thread going and rattles a few cages along the way :D

Guss there are only 2 ranks in the whole of the Borders both in Galashiels
16 spaces for the 147 cabs in our zone in the other 3 zones you just make a rank where is busy or sit at home waiting on a phone call
The borders are well catered for for wheelchair vehicles from hacks to private transport and a dedicated wheelchair company
If you require a wav of any sort folk phone in advance

It's still an inferior service to what is on offer to those who don't need a WAV skippy. The Equality brigade will only be satisfied by the same service levels for everyone - no matter how poor a service that is. They don't really give a sh*t for the poor sods who have to provide it.

ok...so if Joe hires the only WAV in the Village, indeed the only Taxi or PH in the village...then Jill is still going to have to wait regardless....

Thats my point...dear god..do I have to keep an infinite amount of vehicles just to make sure Jill isnt late...or do I tell Joe who is more able that he will just have to wait because he is more able than jill..and Jill just isnt allowed to be late as she is more equal than joe.. :?:

No Guss its a happy medium those that require a wav can get one those who require a saloon or MPV can get one so everyone's happily catered for in one way other the other

Last night there was 3 wavs sat at the front of the rank, they where there for over an hour and a half in that time I did 6 pick ups behind them in between my phone calls they could have been there even longer i don't know as my last pick up was a nice 18 miler
Thats how much interest there is in them
LOl and the best thing was even groups of 5 or 6 where going to the MPVs instead
