No one mentioned that the vehicle had been atrered CC. But as chris states after my comment if it's unsafe for taxi use for the reasons he stated then it's unsafe for any user regardless for what proffesion they're in.

Sorry I presumed you would have known.

Alterations are made to the floorpan of the vehicle in some conversions, thus my point.

No ,just presumed the vehicle would of been manufactured like that. But when people are talking about crumple zones etc we all know vehicles are quite flimsy these days personally I would not put my dog in the back.

1. The crumple zone will stil be there, if it was a non_WAV, so thats bull
(im sure even Fiat check this out before building the vehicles)

2. The case above looks like she wasnt strapped in properly, is that the Doblos fault?

The rear of the wheelchair is in the part of the vehicle designed to given way in an accident.

so your saying the conversion (removing seats and fitting track) results in an unsafe vehicle

wouldnt insurance companies be alert to this?

none would get sold

I'm saying some conversions are not safe, I'm also saying passengers should not be in the part of the vehicle designed to give way in a motor accident, I suppose I could also state that virtually every cab rank in the country has vehicles parked from nose to tail, and rank space seems to be at a premium in most areas, I could say that loading from the rear of the vehicle....into a carriageway is dangerous.

I say a lot....or havent you noticed

Then anyone wanting to licence one should make sure they ask their LA's can they cut one to bits before buying one and cutting it to bits :?

I think any licensing authority licensing these vehicles are seriously deranged......unfortunately there appears to be a few.

and strengthened there there and there maybe?

I tried to enter this Fiat Doblo disabled friendly taxi in my electric powerchair

I tried obviously forwards but it would have tipped me out backwards in a rear wheel drive powerchair. I did get in easily enough with the taxi driver holding the powerchair so it didn't fall over! But that's hardly independent or safe I think. One day there will be an accident and someone will get sued... But that applies to all disabled friendly taxis. They are all too steep.

Reversing out is very scary. I am amazed that they allow this for taxi use under the health and safety rules... If nothing else it could cause heart failure as you reverse out blind on to a steep ramp!

I suppose if your in a place where they may fine you for parking on a street and not on a cab rank by virtue of CCTV it actually is.

Do you load passengers on the kerbside or the road?

There's a head with no body in the back of that Dioblo. Must be my eyes! Looks a bit of a squeeze though and where would the ASDA bags go?

Good quote!

I dont know about the first bit......have the converted doblos been crash tested by that laboratory thingy they go on about on Top Gear?

Apparently there's different rules for different companies.....low volume manufacturers etc?

You could strap your passenger in perfectly in a rear loader. You may even be able to do it more easily than loading from the side, I don't know.

The real danger is not in an accident whilst in motion or in traffic. The occupents of the vehicle are taking the same chance as any other vehicle passengers and drivers in any other vehicle.

The real danger is when loading and unloading. You are not in the crumple zone, you are the crumple zone. The human body does not crumple (well it does, but it does not uncrumple!).

Additionally extra rank space is required - or should the last Hack on the rank be used for the wheelchair passenger?

I say again Ban them all - Taxi, PH or private vehicle.
