My son picked up a fare last Tuesday. 6 passengers going to an army barracks about 30 mins drive away in another county. The fare was negotiated at £50 (on the meter it would have been about £52) On arrival at the barracks gate 5 of the punters got out and the one that was left gave my son £20 and told him to f**k off.
Obviously my son was not a happy bunny. he got out and challenged the chap who then threatened to hit him and accused him of ripping him off.
He then went into the base. My son went to the gate and asked to speak to the commanding officer but was basically told to ring back in the morning. The officer in charge then came to the gate and for some reason the chap who had threatened my son came back and threatened the officer and the chap on the gate.
To cut a long story short, the base commander rang my son today to tell him that there was a cheque and a letter of apology in the post along with details of the action taken by the army. Basically all the people that were in the car have been put on fatigues or whatever that is called these days and the chap that did the threatening is being discharged from the army in January. (it was not his first encounter with the CO.)

You will always get your money from an army camp the 5 on fatigues will be spud bashing cleaning bogs and any other crap jobs they can find then at 10PM they must report to the guard room in full ceremonial dress for kit inspection this can go on for 21 days this on top of there daily duty's.
I would go and speak or write to the CO the army cannot afford to loose a hard man with a gob, asking him to change his mind regarding the dismissal of this man
All squaddies need to let off steam sometimes
He could save someones life if they get posted to Afghanistan

Maybe..but as grandad points out it wasnt the squaddies first run in with the C.O.

Im sure the 1st Battalion of the Royal Dickshires dont need nor want a pr*ick like him in their ranks....

I know he left the cab without paying the full amount along with the others, and he told the guard commander to go forth and multiply, if he was not [edited by admin] I bet this incident would never have happened.
Is £30 really worth him loosing his career over, given a dishonorable discharge and he wont get a job on the outside.
Some of us on TDO have been in the army and we know the sort of things we got up to when on a bender
I told many an officer to go take a feck to themselves, and ended up on RPs but it was all part of the job.
Grandad either you or your son should contact the CO and ask him to think again

don't think he's losing it over this incident, more likely he's been on a final warning and fecked up once too many. silly laddie, certainly. good soldier, doubtful.

He's worked it out that he doesn't want to go fight the Taliban for Gordy Fuksitup Brown and his merry band of thieves, and sees the best way out is to get chucked out.

Notice he threatened ppl but didn't deliver, that is the actions of a man who wants something but doesn't wish to send the message in full, from how it's described he acted if it was pure bravado and trying to get out of paying he'd have swung, the fact he didn't says he's had enough and just wants out any way he can, and right now I don't blame him one bit.

As far as I am aware the guy was described as a complete a55hole by the gate security. He has been in bother on a number of occasions and I think that he is being discharged on this occasion because a member of the public was involved and all his "previous" has been against other service personel. He was very drunk.
The base was North Luffenham in Rutland. It used to be an RAF base but I think it is more of a staging post for troops returning from various tours of duty. I took 2 squaddies out on Tuesday myself. one had just returned from Afganistan and the other from Kenya. (what are we doing in Kenya?)
Over the past couple of years the base has been used to train troops from Fiji, these boys knew how to spend money.

I had the same trouble a few years ago, picked a guy up off the rank and took him home, he was going on about how he was in the army blah blah blah, (he was drunk). When we got to the other end he said I'm just nipping in to get you the money, sure enough he didn't return, on the back seat I noticed a card, I picked it up and sure enough it was his army card with a phone number on telling me what to do if it was found. Phoned the number the next day to be greeted by a very well spoken man, I explained to him what had happened, he couldn't apologise enough. He asked me how much the lad owed? £15 it wasn't worth losing any sleep about I told him, "no no no" he said you will get your money. He took all my details and 4 days later a postal order was posted out to my address with a letter of apology.

They train in Kenya to acclimatise its fecking hot there I have been

Local cabbies won't touch st georges barracks with a barge pole now because so many have been ripped off Grandads son was VERY LUCKY to have got the right people manning the gate usually the ones on guard duty make sure their mates get away without paying the fare !

I will bear that in mind and let the lads in our town know. Thanks for the info.
