I do believe, although I'm not 100% sure that the GMB and RMT are taking on the PCO with respect to its operations?

As I have said I'm not 100% sure and as I have very little to do with London with the exception of the odd coment on here, perhaps you could enlighten us all?

Not being a member of the Railway Union, as 96% of us aren't, I've no idea what the GMB / RMT joint initiative comprises of. Or should I say, did consist of?

I do know that the RMT membership wasn't happy, and I believe the tie up is no longer after a meeting.

Member power and all that . . . so I guess it comes down to what Terry / Don and Steve McKenzie and their powers of meaningful negotiation.

'Chiselling scum' and other heart warming phrases may be used! :D

I'd say the 8 sexual assaults every month spoil it more, especially if your one of the girls attacked by a London Minicab driver.

Very true, perhaps the whole of the London Industry should take steps to try and put an end to this type of incident.

I wish you'd go and give yourself a shake ffs.......either side of the fence equates to a couple of bad eggs on one side and hundreds on the other.

Some of those eight a month are unlicensed, so it's not right to point all your finger at the licensed minicab trade.

Stricter entry control is what's needed, but the PCO don't seem to have the balls to do it.

Eight women are sexually attacked by minicab drivers, some of them unlicensed, every month in London, according to figures released today.

The Met recorded 93 minicab-related sexual offences in 2008-9, although that was down from 120 the previous year.

Really? :?

Any unlicensed vehicle that picks up un-booked work from the street is an unlicensed hackney, not minicab.

'Some'

Here was me thinking licensing was about eliminating this down to the odd one every year, instead it seems it's as bad as ever.

Stricter control or renumeration that attracts the best candidates?

It just so happens they're Minicabs that do it.

What it tells you is that the LA's of the country who say they cannot refuse a license are talking out the back of their necks. As in any job a person has got to be suitable, unfortunately many are not.

The LA's have caused the problem with their slap dash approach to the job, and it should be firmly put back into their court.

I felt a tremor within The Force just for moment there. Image

Anyway, back to Cabby John's post.

You're correct, but as long as people from distant parts with no PNC checkable backgrounds are allowed licenses, this will continue unabated.

How can someone from war torn Afghanistan arrive here with no 'checkable' background and two months later he's got his little Sat nav and is claiming to be a 'cabbie'.

Only in Britain.

How can they check anyone who's not been in this country since birth? Many countries only hold information on offenders for 6 months after they've been released from prison.

They come to the UK have a CRB and surprise surprise they are clear.

They are only minicabs if they are licensed, else they are perverts driving unlicensed hackneys.
