Taxi bookings made easier for Basildon revellers

A TAXI firm is doing its bit to keep order among rowdy late-night revellers.

The A&B company will equip employee Gary Grace with a hand-held device to take bookings at Basildon’s Festival Leisure Park.

Wearing a high-visability jacket, he will patrol the firm’s pick-up point, outside Nando’s restaurant, to organise taxis and give out reservation tickets.

He will be there between 10pm and 4am on Friday and Saturday nights, starting this weekend.

Gary Brand, a partner of the firm, based at Lords Court, Basildon, said the move was designed to make it easy for customers to get a taxi.

He said: “We want to make getting a taxi at the end of the night as straightforward and as safe as we can.

“Gary will organise the bookings and usher people to their taxis to make it all as stress free as possible.”

they have a marked out pick up point with a shelter and a ticket machine there been there for a while now

Aren't these the lottery winners from some years ago?? I remember meeting them at Donnington a few years ago when they were guests of Auriga, they've played all the Data companies, I think they are with Cordic now.

Yep its a way of touting.

Well still a few more hack plates in basildon. A few more won't harm as most are park up, in all areas in the uk.
Just get rid of two tier system, and a lot of problems solved

What about a unmanned office ,where you enter the open waiting room and use a coin operated machine and recieve a ticket (paying £1.00) Then wait for the private hire car to turn up. The £1 being deducted from your fare. Is that legal ?

That's the same as a freephone in a supermarket I would had thought :) But you pay a pound as a depoist

It can't be. Private hire bookings have to have the pick up and destination and the passenger name.

In my view 100% legal.

No different that auto booking via your phone.

Only if it says so in your operating conditions.

Not found in any national statutes. :wink:

Nope I pointed out that most private hire operators licenses come with a condition that they should record the details of all jobs.

That is what ours state and our enforcement officer has even been out to check.
