The way I see dress code is as follows;

A great number of drivers that we now have in Brum & I suspect around the country, like to turn up to work in jam-jams, pyjamas, call them what you like, coupled with sandals or flip-flops without socks.

These jam-jams, pyjamas, sandals & flip-flops, to those who are wearing them, are 'smart' & some will tell you that their clothes are 'designer gear'.

Now if you want to wear YOUR smart casual gear, then don't belly-ache when others wear THEIR smart casual wear!!

The fact is one persons smart casual wear is a 'bag 'o sh*t in the eyes of another.

That is why I believe that a 'smart casual gear' dress code is no dress code at all.

The only answer is a proper dress code with tailored collared shirt, proper trousers & black / brown shoes. I don't see the need for a tie myself, but I do see the need for a more standard dress code than we have at present.

In that case I suppose you wouldn't mind if I were a Carlisle cabbie in front of you on the rank & I wore jim-jams, sandals, no socks & I was stuck first turn with you behind me because no one wanted to travel in my cab because of the way I looked i.e. 'a bag 'o sh*t'?

That would depend on the jim-jams and the person wearing them :wink:

That's not for me to decide on, I know how I go to work, I dont want to pay an employee of the coucil out of my license fee to draft and prepare a dress code, or to walk around the City centre checking cab drivers.

I'm pretty sure this is covered in our byelaws anyway, I'm almost certain in the past the council have sent home drivers for dressing and smelling like bags of sh*te :D

Then your council must have something in writing about dress codes to be able to send drivers home.

You don't count in this equation.

She did, she sent a driver home once for having an offensive haircut, and another one, (and I think she was right) because he sh*t himself at work and the sh*t went through onto the drivers seat........and yes I did get the job of cleaning it!
