A BELLSHILL taxi firm was forced off the road last week after the radio antenna was stolen from the roof of its premises in Bellshill Industrial Estate.
The 20-foot pole, worth £1,000, was stolen from Bellshill Private Hire's base in Belgrave Street forcing the recently set up firm to suspend its operations over the weekend.

The new antenna was due to be fitted this week, but on Monday the taxi firm was back on the road using a temporary antenna with limited range.

Firm owner Dave Vanderson said: "The theft put us out of business temporarily because drivers were unable to use our radios.

"We opened this company due to popular demand and I realise we might not be terribly popular among our competitors due to our low prices, but to be honest neither we nor the police know who did this.

"The antenna can be used only at a certain frequency, but I doubt it was taken to be used. I suspect it was a theft for the sake of it or to cause us some inconvenience.

"There is no question it's a setback, but we'll stomach the blow and get on with it because we aren't going anywhere."

My guess is that another PH firm commissioned the disappearance of the radio mast.
