Why is it, that the fuel companies are always blamed for the cost of a litre of fuel? when it is clearly the government that is making it so dear.
A break down of a litre of fuel is, based on £1.00 a litre.
refinery cost 31.75p
forcourt cost/profit 5p
fuel duty 48.35p
VAT 14.9p
total £1.00p
What i would like to know though, is why diesel is dearer than petrol in this country, when it is cheaper any where else in europe?
It used to be cheaper and the government taxed it less as it was more economical (nowt to do with Emissions in those days)...then because of being cheaper the numbers of Diesel vehicles crept up and up....Because of this the Petro Chemical companies started blaming lack of UK refining capacity in order to put their price up, at the same time the Goverment started taxing it more to make up on their shortfall from lost income on the reduced use of petrol.
Basically the Diesel user got hit from both sides.
Yet still their is a Lack of refining plants in the UK or so they say...but if thats the case and we buy it in from europe..then why dont we now have extra refinerys...and why also as being part of the EU are the Petrol Companys charging us more for the same Diesel??? theyve had 15 years to up its production here!!!
