They've never seen so much work off the boats here. One taxi came all the way from Northest Scotland for his fare :D It caused gridlock on the roads when the boat arrived

well so far we have missed out on 2 gatwicks and 2 heathrows as a result of cancellations thats £500 worth of work lost

My sister & her kids were on holiday in the South of France and has now got to endure a 48 hour coach journey back  and then drive home from Manchester Airport

By the way I doubt this one is a big enough eruption to cause any lasting problems weather wise as long as we don't get one like the one that caused the rats to migrate bringing about the black death which is believed to have been krakatoa blowing itself to bits apparently crops failed then for over 20 years in a row !

Although I feel very sorry for the people who have missed their flights... I must admit.. it is nice to look into the sky and see no aeroplanes.... it makes one remember the way things used to be.... everything has a silver lining..

As grandad in 'Only Fools and Horses' would say, "Befowa the wowar . . ."

Yes, but just think how much there's going to be to & from airports once this is all over.

But before all that my now married son & I are off to the car auctions at Measham in about an hour to buy the student a replacement car. She crawled home from Portsmouth with a knackered gearbox on Monday & there's no chance she will get back there in that car with the noise it's now making. And it's a W reg, so not worth repairing.

So, as she's 21 in a few weeks we've all decided to chip in to get her a replacement car as an early surprise birthday present. It won't be a limousine, but it will get her from A to B until she graduates next year & it will have to do.

Women, especially women students, can't diagnose car problems. Gearbox gone my a*se!!! We never went to the car auctions in the end. When my son arrived to pick me up, I asked him to drive the car first to verify what the problem was. I am not insured on my daughter's car; taxi driver, so excluded. Five minutes later he came back & said it wasn't the gearbox, but wrecked brake pads & discs.

£93.00 later, plus a new tyre from Dad & she went back to Portsmouth at 2.00pm Saturday afternoon in her old, but still going well student car, after her brother spent four hours valeting it.

Saved us all a combined £800-£1,000, thank God.
